Client: The McClymonts

Project Overview

An intimate behind-the-scenes documentary following The McClymonts during their breakthrough year. Capturing the journey of Australia's most awarded country music group.

The Challenge

Document the authentic journey of The McClymonts - three sisters from Grafton, NSW who were rapidly becoming Australia's most successful country music act. The challenge was capturing genuine, unguarded moments while maintaining the professional quality expected for broadcast and promotional use.

Our Approach

We embedded ourselves with the group over several months, building trust that allowed us to capture truly candid moments. Our small, unobtrusive crew used documentary-style handheld cinematography for intimate scenes, while deploying full production setups for performance footage. The result was a seamless blend of fly-on-the-wall authenticity and polished production value.

The Story

The McClymonts - Brooke, Samantha, and Mollie - had already won multiple Golden Guitar Awards when we began this project. But their story was more than just awards and chart success. It was about family, dedication, and the unique dynamic of three sisters pursuing their shared dream.

Our documentary followed them from their hometown of Grafton to the stages of Tamworth Country Music Festival, from recording sessions to tour buses, capturing the moments that define life as working musicians.

Production Approach

Documentary filmmaking requires a different approach than music video production. We prioritised building genuine relationships with our subjects, which allowed us to be present during vulnerable and celebratory moments alike.

Technical choices supported this approach: lightweight camera rigs that didn't intrude, natural lighting whenever possible, and wireless audio that captured conversations without visible microphones. The editing style favoured longer takes and natural pacing, letting the sisters' personalities shine through.

Legacy

This documentary remains one of the most comprehensive looks at The McClymonts during their pivotal early years. Footage from this production has been used in numerous retrospectives and continues to connect fans with the group's authentic story.
